The head of the preliminary study team Satoshi Chikami visited Palau from Nov. 24 to Dec. 4
The study aims to discuss the basic design of the Phase II Project and to tackle the monitoring method for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) developed by the project is applied to the member countries of Micronesian Challenge.It added that the study team aims to institutionalize monitoring system for MPA.During the team’s stay , the two groups exchanged views and had series of discussions with Palauan authorities concerned regarding the desirable measures to be taken by the government for the successful implementation of the project.The agenda of the visit stayed that the Japanese visited several ministries. The Micronesian challenge, Protected Area Network Office (PAN), Palau Conservation Society and PICRC.Chikami was accompanied by the others members of the team such as Keiji Nakashima, Shingo Takeda, Tomoshi Ichikawa.The Japan government wants to help out Palau, according to PICRC because the conservation of coral reef is important for the country because main economic activities are based on tourism which depends on diverse natural resources, particularly coral reef surrounding the island of Palau.
