JWBFA donates school supplies to Peleliu school

Kazuo Suzuki, the Japanese group’s president, led the turn-over of the donation. Principal Ngereblunt Arurang received the donation in behalf of the school.

The donation was turned over at the Peleliu Elementary School on Thursday.

Suzuki stressed that the donation is primarily meant to help Palauan grade schoolers. “It is important for the kids. They need it. We hope the donations will help those children,” he said.

The Japanese donation contained in three boxes includes pencils, pens, origami paper, construction paper, color pens, educational stickers and basketballs. The donation was intended for the 83 grade school pupils of Peleliu Elementary School.

He added that it is also meant to further cement the friendship between Palauans and the people of Japan.

“We wanted to do what we can to help the Palauan people, whether it may be through a donation or any act of goodwill. We are optimistic that this would lead to a stronger relationship between the two people,” Suzuki declared.

Earlier, the Japanese group donated a wheelchair to the OMEKESANG, a non-profit organization (NGO) that is actively promoting disability awareness in this island republic.

In behalf of the school, Principal Arurang thanked the Japanese group for its generosity.

According to her, it is for the sixth time that the Japanese group has come over to their school to give something for the schoolchildren. “Different personalities, but same purpose every time,” she disclosed.

The Japan War-Bereaved Families Association or JWBFA is an organization of Japanese whose fathers were killed in Palau and other areas of the Pacific Theater while serving with the Japanese Imperial Army during Second World War.

JWBFA counts several thousand members who pay a yearly visit to the World War II battlefield sites in Palau and other areas in the Pacific. During those visits, the group also took time to donate school supplies, wheelchairs and other equipment as a token of friendship.
