Kilili, running unopposed, to work on end-of-the-year legislation

U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan said he is going to work on several pieces of legislation before his current term ends.

Kilili, who is running unopposed, said he wants to address some pressing CNMI issues, adding that there are things that he needs to do “between now and Jan. 2.”

He noted that the U.S. Congress is “in in the middle of annual appropriation again, and it looks like we are going to have to move to continuing resolution again maybe after the election, so the [U.S.] government doesn’t shut down.”

Kilili said the U.S. House is also expected to act on the Manchin-Schumer bill which, according to Reuters, would “increase corporate taxes, reduce the national debt, invest in energy technologies and lower the cost of prescription drugs.”

Kilili said, “It is really hard to tell what comes out next in the following weeks, toward the November 8 election.”

The CNMI’s first U.S. congressional delegate, Kilili was first elected in 2008 as an independent. This year, he is seeking an eighth term as a Democrat.
