Kiribati election results put on hold

Last month’s elections saw  incumbent Anote Tong, Dr. Tetaua Taitai and last Parliament’s opposition leader, Rimeta Beniamina, nominated for the position.

In October, 138 candidates contested the 23 constituencies on offer in the national election, with President Tong accusing China of trying to influence the result.

Kiribati is one of six Pacific nations that give diplomatic recognition to Taiwan.

Media on Kiribati is reporting the presidential vote will be held in a month’s time.
