According to Travis August, Koror State Solid Waste Management (KSSWM), Manager Recycling Center the schedule is set in May but this could be started earlier than the scheduled date.
He said they are just waiting for all the land use permits especially the permit from the Environment Quality Protection Board (EQPB) before they start the project.
“Although we already got most of it we are still waiting for some others so that it will be one shot. Then we will prepare the publication and start the bidding for the contractor of the project,” August said.
The additional waste segregation stations will be located in Medalaii, Iyebukel, Idid and Ikelau. However three of these hamlets are private properties and Governor Yoshitaka Adachi negotiated with the owners for the land lease.
Last March 3, Japan government through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) granted $38,250 for the construction of the project. March 3 is supposed to be the date for the project to start.
Travis said they will meet with the Japan Embassy to discuss a possible extension of theconstruction schedule.
The Koror State has 26 waste segregation stations in hamlets, four in elementary schools, one in Koror State Capitol and five in some parks such as in the Long Island
The construction of additional waste segregation stations will enable each household in Koror to segregate waste effectively.
