Koshiba accepted the nomination at the same time that he was nominated by Toribiong last Dec. 12.
Koshiba will begin his new post under the new administration of Toribiong.“I hereby nominate you to be my Chief Representative to the Compact Review pursuant to Section 432 and related sections of the Compact of Free Association between the Republic of Palau and the United States of America,” Toribiong said in his letter of nomination of Koshiba.In earlier interview, Toribiong said he will be nominating a person who was involved in the first Compact negotiation.Koshiba was part of the Palau group that first sat down with the U.S. group for the Compact negotiation.Koshiba’s experience as a lawmaker for several years or since the inception of the Compact made him fit for the job.Koshiba’s appointment will have to be confirmed by the incoming 8th Olbiil Era Kelulau Senate members.Koshiba run for the president but lost during the primary and he is also constitutionally barred from seeking re-election in the Senate.Koshiba heavily campaigned for Toribiong during the last election.
