1,000 DVDs for veterans ready for shipping

Rotarian Mike Tripp yesterday said the DVDs are ready for shipping to the New-York based DVDs4VETS project.

Tripp said Rotarian Alex Sablan will be taking care of the boxes of DVDs for shipping to the DVDs4VETS, whose mission is to provide DVDs to veterans who cannot obtain them.

“I would like to thank everybody who pitched in and donated their new and used DVDs for the veterans. I know our donation will be appreciated,” Tripp said.

Tripp donated 650 DVDs from his collection, while the rest of the DVDs came from other Rotarians and members of the community.

Throughout the two-week campaign, Tripp went on air and discussed the collection drive on the radio. He left boxes at the Megabyte, Hyatt Regency, Ernst & Young, and Joeten Susupe so members of the community can drop in their DVD donations.

The DVDs4Vets, a Web site which targets to distribute DVDs and DVD players to veterans, has received over 300,000 used and new DVDs from various donors. If you are a veteran and you would like to receive DVDs, you can visit www.dvds4vets.org for more information.

Yesterday, Tripp also bid goodbye to the Rotary Club of Saipan as he will be leaving the island for Canada on Saturday. Tripp, a dive instructor, has been on Saipan for the last eight years.

“I have enjoyed so many unforgettable Rotary moments, and I will bring the memories of the community with me. I will be back for more dives and visit the island soon,” Tripp said.
