FOUR senators and eight House members are headed to Guam to attend the Mariana Islands Legislature Association conference set for July 10-14, 2024.
The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation chairman, Rep. John Paul A. Sablan, who left on Tuesday, is coordinating the CNMI’s participation. He earlier said that “not a single penny” from the CNMI government’s coffers would be spent on their participation.
Variety learned that the Office of Grants Management & State Clearinghouse will pay for the lawmakers’ travel costs. The funding sources are the grants received from the Office of Insular Affairs.
At the conference, CNMI lawmakers and their Guam counterparts will discuss regional issues, such as airfare costs, labor, and healthcare, among others.
The CNMI senators scheduled to leave for Guam today, Wednesday, are Senate Vice President Donald Manglona, Senate Floor Leader Corina Magofna, Sen. Celina Babauta and Sen. Paul A. Manglona.
The other House members attending the conference are House Floor Leader Edwin Propst, Reps. Vincent S. Aldan, Angelo A. Camacho, Joseph A. Flores, Malcolm Omar, Ralph N. Yumul and Manny Gregory T. Castro.
Joining them are Legislative Bureau staffers and some OGM officials.
