130 people seek shelter

130 individuals have availed themselves of the various typhoon shelters on Saipan, Tinian and Rota, Interim Commissioner of Education Donna M. Flores told Variety Tuesday night.

She said they are “safe” and “no other untoward incident has been reported.”

“We are actively monitoring and responding to the needs of those that are in the shelters,” she added.

The shelters include various public schools and the Office on Aging Centers.

 There were 23 individuals in the Marianas High School cafeteria; 16 in the Koblerville Elementary School cafeteria, 53 in the Kagman High School cafeteria; one in the Tinian Elementary School cafeteria, 35 at the Office on Aging Center on Saipan; and two at the Office on Aging in Rota.

“So far, no shelter issues have been reported, and we continue to work with our key agency partners in monitoring the well-being of those that are in the shelters,” Flores added.
