16 schools to join Environmental Expo today

Lisa Eller of the Division of Environmental Quality told the Variety that over 1,200 students have already confirmed their  participation in the two-day event.

Eller said there will be 30 exhibits which will cover a whole range of environmental-related subjects including recycling, energy efficiency, human health in relation to the environment, disaster preparedness, conservation and other topics.

Tomorrow, the Environmental Exhibit will continue for the high school students from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Janine Nogis of  DEQ said a fashion show competition for high schools showcasing creations made of recycled materials will be held at American Memorial Park at 10 a.m.

Nogis said three schools have confirmed participation — Grace Christian Academy, Kagman High School and Saipan Southern High School but they are still accepting more participants.

“We understand that the short time frame may have hindered other schools from participating but they can still join,” Nogis said.

Each school can showcase more than two entries but the clothes must be made of 90 percent recycled materials. At stake are $300,  $200 and $100 for the first, second and third prizes.

For more information, contact Eller or Brooke Nevitt at 664-8500. Inquiries about the fashion show can be directed to Nogis at 664-8500.
