17 Tinian community members complete Governor’s Broadband Bootcamp

THE Governor’s Broadband Bootcamp on Tuesday certified 17 Tinian residents in fiber optic and broadband technologies.

The graduates are Bonnie Bernice San Nicolas Borja, Jack Ryan M. Castro, Danivid Hilario Cing, Dallace DeSean Crawford, Geanetta Cruz, Gloria Margarita S. Diaz, Lorna Hofschneider, Francisco Borja Ikehara, Melvin Bruce John King, Nellie H. King, Joel John Laniyo Mailuyal, Adan Alfred Aquino Manlulu, Joshua Elvin San Nicolas Masga, Steve John Mendiola, Miguel Montelongo, Redenald Dorado Patio and Giancarlo Ramon Santos San Nicolas.

In the 19-week program, which ran from January to May, the Tinian participants learned about fiber optic deployment, broadband networks, trenching, as well as career skills including time management, fundamentals of Microsoft Excel, emotional intelligence and customer service excellence.

Adan Alfred Aquino Manlulu, a participant in the program, said the bootcamp has been an incredible journey of learning and growth.

“The knowledge and skills I gained in fiber optic technology and broadband networks have empowered me to contribute directly to improving connectivity in our community,” Manlulu said. “Beyond the technical training, the program’s focus on soft skills like time management and customer service has prepared me to serve our people with professionalism and dedication. I’m proud to be part of this initiative that will help bring better broadband access to Tinian and support the island’s future development.”

Glen Hunter, special assistant for the CNMI Broadband Policy and Development Office, said he is incredibly proud of the 17 graduates from Tinian.

“This milestone represents more than just certification — it marks a significant step forward in building local expertise in fiber optic and broadband technologies right here in Tinian,” Hunter said. “This initiative is a vital part of the governor’s overall solid plan to develop a robust digital infrastructure and build a thriving digital economy across the CNMI. Over the 19-week program, participants not only gained critical technical skills in fiber deployment and network infrastructure but also developed essential soft skills like time management and customer service excellence. Their achievement strengthens our collective capacity to expand and enhance broadband access throughout the CNMI, empowering our communities with the connectivity needed for economic growth and improved quality of life.”

The 17 are part of 269 graduates who are completing the program this week, with the Rota cohort graduating June 12 and the Saipan cohorts June 14.

Funded through a Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment grant through the CNMI Office of the Governor and the CNMI Broadband Policy and Development Program, the bootcamp is administered by Northern Marianas College’s Center for Training and Innovation in conjunction with the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, Island Training Solutions and the CNMI Department of Labor – Workforce Development Agency.
