19 companies to join PSS career fair, more needed

There are now  19 agencies/companies joining, according to Marianas High School Cooperative Education & Training Program teacher/coordinator Tyce Mister.

But he said more are needed and are welcome to join the fair.

Participating are the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation, the Division of Employment Services, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Herman’s Bakery, Hyatt Regency Saipan, IT&E, KSPN2 News, Law Office of Robert Torres, Marianas Health LLC, Marianas Resort and Spa, the Northern Marianas Housing Corporation, the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Pacific Islands Club, POI Aviation, Sorensen Media Group (Power 99, 97.9 Kat, TV7), The CNMI Judiciary, Torres Refrigeration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Workforce Investments Agency.

Mister said they are looking to have at least 30 companies/agencies joining the career fair.

“This is a great opportunity to recruit some fabulous students for internships,” Mister said.

He is urging companies that have hired Co-Op students to have the former students attend the career air to help represent the companies.

About 120 students from the Cooperative Education & Training Program and from the Secondary Transition Program of Marianas High School, Kagman High School and Saipan Southern High School are expected to be at the career fair.

“If your business is interested in providing training for cooperative training students, then I do recommend you collect resumes and set up interview appointments,” Mister said.

Interviews may begin as early as the next day and the goal is to complete interviews by the following week, Friday. The students will be available after 1:30 p.m. on school days.

Mister said “offering an interview does not mean the business is obligated to train the student  and just by training the student does not mean you are obligated to offer a position after graduation.”

The career fair will start at 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Royal Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort. For more information, call 237-3248.
