19 ICE detainees held at Susupe prison, says Corrections chief

CNMI Department of Corrections Commissioner Anthony Torres said there are currently 19 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees housed at the Susupe prison facility.

“These individuals are being held in accordance with federal immigration authorities and are awaiting their immigration court proceedings. Due process is being ensured for all individuals admitted to our facility,” Torres said.

He added that CNMI Corrections remains fully committed to working closely with federal agencies to ensure that all detention procedures comply with applicable laws and standards.

Torres provided the following detainee statistics:

Current ICE detainee population in DOC: 19

Sri Lanka: 1

Philippines: 2

China: 13

August 2025 activity

Deportations facilitated: 8

ICE arrests made: 12

“Our priority is to maintain a safe, humane, and transparent environment while fulfilling our legal responsibilities. We will continue to coordinate with our federal partners to ensure detainees are treated lawfully and with dignity,” Torres said.

The increase in ICE operations across the United States follows executive orders by President Donald Trump directing greater focus on detaining and deporting immigrants with criminal records.
