THE government yesterday filed charges against three persons who allegedly stole and forged checks belonging to the Northern Marianas Beauty Pageant Association.
Eugenio J. Castro, 35, Leonina L. Castro, 31, and Priscilla A. Lizama, 30, were charged with conspiracy, forgery, forgery (“uttering”) and theft.
The defendants were summoned to appear and answer the charges in Superior Court on July 1 at 9 a.m.
Sources said Eugenio and Leonina Castro are husband and wife. Mrs. Castro was a member of NMBPA when the alleged crimes were committed.
NMBPA decided to fire Mrs. Castro following an investigation.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the three defendants conspired in stealing and forging the checks from Dec. 2001 to Feb. 2002.
AGO said the defendants stole and altered the Bank of Guam checks of the account holder, NMBPA. The value of the property involved was “at least $250 but less than $20,000,” AGO said.
No other details were given in court papers.
Sources said NMBPA discovered the forgery when the association received several calls from companies about its bouncing checks. Because several checks were forged no money was left in the account, sources said.
