2 ‘green’ films to be screened on Dec. 3

The two films, according to Aric Bickel of DEQ are “Home for Hawksbill” and “Sanihi — A Cultural Digest.”

Bickel said these are about 30 minutes each.

“Home for Hawksbill” is about how different tribes in the Solomon Islands set aside their differences and joined efforts to conserve the turtles and allow them to replenish.

Last Friday, almost a hundred individuals showed up to watch “Blue Gold: World Water Wars” at the American Memorial Park Visitor Center.

Bickel said the First Friday Films are creating a huge impact in the community since they started it in July.

“We are getting more participation from the community and we are hoping for more participation in the coming months,” he said.

After the film showing, the audience can ask questions and interact with DEQ personnel on the various environmental issues involved in the films.

Last Friday’s discussion was on Saipan’s tap and drinking water. The audience learned how to become better stewards of this precious resource. An exhibit about the world’s declining supply of freshwater and ways on conserving water was also put up in the Visitor Center lobby.
