2 juveniles nabbed for alleged theft of car

TWO juveniles allegedly stole a car from the Mt. Carmel Cathedral parking lot, vandalized it and struck another vehicle on Good Friday.

The juveniles were apprehended after they were chased by police officers. Both were taken to the Juvenile Office, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Pete C. Muna.

Muna said the minor who drove the vehicle was held for theft of vehicle, reckless driving, fleeing the scene of an accident, eluding police officers, improper signal, and unqualified driver without driver’s license.

Muna said 71-year-old Jesus T. Sablan and his wife parked their car under a tree at the northern area of the cathedral’s parking lot to attend the Mass.

Sablan’s wife did not lock the front doors of the car. She left the key in the ignition because it would not come out.

After the Mass at 3:30 p.m., the couple noticed that the car was no longer at the parking lot. They then filed a complaint with the police.

At 5:07 p.m. that same day, Police Sgt. Johnny Tomei spotted the vehicle heading south on Beach Road in Chalan Laulau.

The vehicle turned left on the secondary road south of the Mobil gas station in San Jose. The car passed the next intersection road behind the gas station, entered the westbound lane and struck another vehicle.

The two juveniles then got out from the car and ran. Police officers arrested the suspects during the chase.

Muna said the stolen vehicle was damaged.

The suspects wrote “San Antonio Boys” on the right top interior panel of the front passenger door.
