$2,000 cash bail set for man who beat up girlfriend

Associate judge Kenneth L. Govendo at the same time appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Emerson Claveria who has been charged with assault and battery, interfering with a domestic violence report, and disturbing the peace.

The judge set the preliminary hearing for June 30 and ordered the confiscation of Claveria’s travel documents.

He is required to report to the court whenever required, keep all appointments with his attorney, and have no direct or indirect contact with his girlfriend.

In an affidavit of probable cause, Detective Andrea C. Ozawa stated that Claveria’s girlfriend reported the domestic violence incident to police authorities on June 17.

The victim “had redness in her face, arms, neck, and left leg.” There were also old bruises on her left arm and left leg.

Ozawa said the one-year-old child of Claveria and his girlfriend witnessed the assault incident.

When the victim tried to call for help on the telephone, Claveria  threw the phone to the floor, the affidavit stated.

It added that Claveria fought with his stepfather who was trying to stop him. When Claveria went out of the house, he  punched a window and shattered it, cutting his own hand, the affidavit stated.
