That is why the Public School System has experienced a shortage of teachers and school staffers in the first and second quarters of school year 2020-2021, he added.

He said some classrooms had to accommodate more students. Classrooms that normally had 30 students ended up having up to 60, he added.

He also said remote learning has somehow addressed this shortage.

Moreover,  Families First will end this month. “So by January a lot of these teachers should be back,” Ada said.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to Covid-19. These provisions  apply from April 1, 2020 through Dec. 31, 2020.

The employers covered under the Act must provide their employees up to 80 hours of paid sick leave based on the higher of their regular rate of pay, or the applicable state or federal minimum wage, paid at two-third for the following qualifying reasons: employee is caring for an individual subject to local quarantine or isolation order related to Covid-19, and experiencing any other substantially similar condition specified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
