229 graduate from Governor’s Broadband Bootcamp on Saipan

(NMC) — 229 graduates across four cohorts on Saipan completed the Governor’s Broadband Bootcamp on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The Saipan participants are now skilled in fiber optic and broadband technologies after completing a 19-week program that ran from January to May 2025.

During the program, participants learned about fiber optic deployment, broadband networks, trenching as well as career skills including time management, fundamentals of Microsoft Excel, emotional intelligence and customer service excellence.

“I’m really excited to have completed the Governor’s Broadband Bootcamp and to be certified in fiber optic and broadband technologies,” said Jacob Deleon Guerrero Sablan, one of the 229 graduates from Saipan. “Over the past 19 weeks, I’ve learned so much — not just about broadband networks and fiber optic deployment, but also about important career skills like time management, emotional intelligence and customer service. I’m grateful for this opportunity and for everyone who made this program possible. I’m looking forward to using what I’ve learned to help our community grow and to start my career in this field.”

Glen Hunter, special assistant for the CNMI Broadband Policy and Development Office, said he is incredibly proud of the 229 graduates from Saipan.

“This milestone marks a significant step forward in building local expertise in fiber optic and broadband technologies right here in Saipan,” Hunter said. “This initiative is a vital part of the governor’s overall plan to develop a robust digital infrastructure and build a thriving digital economy across the CNMI. Over the 19-week program, participants not only gained critical technical skills in fiber deployment and network infrastructure but also developed essential soft skills like time management and customer service excellence. Their achievement strengthens our collective capacity to expand and enhance broadband access throughout the CNMI, empowering our communities with the connectivity needed for economic growth and improved quality of life.”

Funded through a Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment grant through the CNMI Office of the Governor and the CNMI Broadband Policy and Development Program, the bootcamp is administered by Northern Marianas College’s Center for Training and Innovation in conjunction with the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, Island Training Solutions and the CNMI Department of Labor Workforce Development Agency.
