27 boxes to be shipped for typhoon victims

The LBC boxes are scheduled for shipment today.

UFO president Olive Yana said their group completed sorting the items and sealing the boxes on Monday night.

“Most of the donated items were clothes (for men, women and kids), blankets, towels, utensils, toys, and other basic needs.  Food donations were minimal,” she said.

Yana said all other donations that were not accommodated will be shipped in the next two weeks.

LBC offered free sea cargo services for in-kind donations to the typhoon victims.

Yana said they have yet to open the boxes for the cash donations.

On Friday, they will directly deposit the monetary donations into the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development and Sagip Kapamilya-ABS-CBN Foundation accounts.

UFO is still accepting donations.

Those who want to donate can call Yana at 234-6529 or UFO secretary Annamae Adaza at 483-5237.

The United Workers Movement, NMI and the Pilipino Contract Workers Association have launch their fundraising drive for the typhoon victims.

Rabby Syed, UWM-NMI president, said their group wants to “extend assistance to our brothers and sisters in the Philippines, who are facing difficulties due to the typhoon.”

He added, “Everybody needs to come up with anything to help the victims.”

Syed is urging contract workers and local residents to donate clothing, canned goods and cash.

The fundraising drive started on Oct. 5 and will end on Oct. 12, according to Jun Concillado, the new president of Pilcowa.

Concillado said all donations will be forwarded to the Philippines through air freight with the help of a Saipan foundation, which did not want to be identified.

According to Ronnie Doca, UWM-NMI and Pilcowa board chairman, all donations will go to the office of City Councilor Sammy Ferriol of Marikina, the worst hit area of Metro Manila.

Ferriol’s office will then distribute the donations to the typhoon victims.

Those who want to help can drop their donations at the Doris Dress Shop in San Jose — look for Nick Riveral.

In Koblerville, you can drop your donations at the Western Union office across from Hanam Market — look for Beth Directo.

In Chalan Kanoa-Susupe,  drop your donation at Ronnie Doca’s residence across from the former Stella Market.

For pick-up arrangements of donations, contact Rabby Syed at 285-3306, Jun Concillado at 288-0191/287-0191, or Ronnie Doca at 285-9255.
