Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric F. David said DPS central received a call at around 9:39 p.m. reporting an auto-auto accident.
Traffic and patrol section police officers as well as rescue-medics from the fire station were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Police officers learned that a green Jeep Cherokee operated by a 59-year-old man made a left turn on a red light at the Shell traffic signal light and stuck a white Kia Sephia which was traveling on the outer lane.
The Jeep Cherokee had one 42-year-old female passenger. The Kia was operated by a 53-year-old man who had a 36-year old passenger.
After the initial impact, the Jeep Cherokee tipped over on its left side and came to rest on the outer eastbound lane facing southwest.
David said the four individuals involved in the accident were later released from CHC.
The Kia Sephia sustained extensive damage to its front portion from the bumper to the hood area while the Jeep Cherokee sustained moderate damage to its left and front bottom.
The investigation showed that the operator of the Jeep Cherokee was the cause of the collision and violated traffic rules by disobeying a traffic signal light. Alcohol was not a factor.
David said the weather was cloudy and the road surface, including the shoulder, was wet.
