4 typhoon victims remain in Northern Islands

The four refused to be brought to Saipan aboard the fishing vessel Blue Marlin.

Eight other typhoon victims arrived here on Tuesday and were provided with six weeks supply of food by the Salvation Army.

Camacho said the four people’s home was “still standing up” unlike the eight who lost their home and crops.

But he said the eight are in good condition under the care of the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.

The Salvation Army has also provided cooking utensils, portable butane stoves, pillows, pillow cases, towel sets, canopies and other items to the typhoon victims.

“We will provide them with more food if needed,” the Salvation Army said.

According to Camacho, the eight people will remain at the Ada Gym.

They said they would want to come back to the Northern Islands when “all is well.”

Camacho said the mayor’s office of the Northern Islands will be responsible for the return of the eight to Alamagan.

The mayor’s office should also provide food to the four people left behind, he added.
