49% drop in August brand new car sales

The CNMI’s three car dealers sold 28 brand new vehicles last month. They sold 55 in Aug. 2010.

Leading last month’s sales was Triple J Motors with 12 units or 43 percent of the market share. Joeten Motors followed with 9 while Microl Corp. had 7.

The brand new vehicles sold last month included 12 sedans, 5 trucks, 3 vans and 8 SUV’s.

Last month, Mazda was the new car market-share leader with 8 units sold, or 28.5 percent of the  market.

Toyota was the second brand of choice with 7 units sold, followed by Ford and Hyundai with 4 units sold each, Nissan with 3 and Kia with 2.

The Mazda3 sedan is the market-share leader year-to-date among cars, while the Hyundai Tucson is the market-share leader year-to-date among SUV’s.

The three car dealers sold 284 brand new cars from January to August this year, indicating a 31.23 percent drop compared to the 413 sold during the same eight-month period last year.

The vehicles sold for the first eight months of the year included 108 sedans, 66 trucks, 23 vans, 82 SUV’s, and 5 others.

Joeten Motors and Microl Corp. sold a total of 103 brand new cars each while Triple J Motors sold 78.

The three dealers also sold 24 used cars last month. Triple J Motors sold the most used cars with 14, or 58 percent of the dealer market. Microl Corp. sold 6 while Joeten Motors sold 4.

From January to August, the dealers sold a total of 177 used cars, 77 of which were sold by Triple J Motors, 58 by Microl Corp. and 42 by Joeten Motors.

Triple J Motors general manager Randy Steele said they are very satisfied with the sales they had in August.

He said Triple J Motors currently holds the market-share lead year-to-date for new cars new SUV’s sold.

“Our new promotion for August featuring the arrival of the 2012 Hyundais with their new 10-year/100,000 mile Limited Powertrain Warranty, was a consistent driver of traffic to our dealership,” Steele said.

They also started the month with a deep inventory of quality, reconditioned used cars and the public noticed by purchasing 14 of those cars in August, he added.

Triple J distributes Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mazda and others. Microl Corp. is the local dealer of Toyota and Chevrolet brands while Joeten Motors sells Nissan, Ford, Honda, Kia and other car brands.
