5 engines at Power Plant 2 await parts, maintenance

According to CUC’s power generation status report, only engine #1 at Power Plant 2 is operational and is producing only 1.8 megawatts of power.

Engine #1 is designed to generate 2.5-mw.

The rest of the engines can produce 2.5-mw but are down as CUC waits for the parts and maintenance work that will be provided by CISCO, the contractor hired by CUC to conduct repair and maintenance operations at Power Plant 2.

CISCO is waiting for the engine parts to arrive before it can continue to repair the engines.

Should all six engines of Power Plant 2 become operational, the facility will be able to generate a total of 15-mw of power for the island.

Earlier, CUC Executive Director Antonio S. Muna said the delivery of engine parts, particularly for Power Plant 1, takes time as they are manufactured only upon order.

“Some of these parts require lead time,” he stated. “They need to be manufactured. They’re not just on the shelf somewhere. They need to go to a factory, and have them manufactured.”

Muna said earlier that “once the parts issue is resolved, it’s just about manpower. If we could get the parts, then the manpower can be accelerated.”

CISCO is currently working on the repair of the alternator of engine #7 at Power Plant 1.
