$5K bail for theft defendant

SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Monday imposed a $5,000 cash bail on Clyde Thomas C. Sablan, who is accused of stealing seven light brown plastic chairs from a catering company in San Antonio.

Sablan, 30, was charged with theft and burglary. He was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.

He was also ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on June 12 at 10 a.m., and for an arraignment on June 17 at 9 a.m.

According to the complaint against Sablan, the theft incident was reported to the police on May 30 at around 11:58 a.m.

The mother told police that she saw Sablan, who was living in a light brown typhoon tent next to her house, coming out of the tent with several plastic chairs.

The mother told her daughter to call the police. The mother also instructed her daughter to take a photo of Sablan taking the plastic chairs and placing them at an abandoned house before walking away.

A Kalayaan employee positively identified the seven chairs as owned by the company, police said.

The employee is in charge of the company’s kitchen equipment and familiar with the chairs.

The employee also showed police the storage room that was broken into. He showed where the padlock door was pried open.

The employee said the plastic chairs were inside the storage room before they were stolen.

Sablan was later spotted by the police near the San Antonio Church. He was arrested and brought to Corrections for booking and detention.

No other information about the defendant was available as of press time Monday evening.
