First place winner from Rota is Raven Charfauros, a third grade student of Sinapalo Elementary School. Second place is Venda Bridilia Mesgon Maratita, a fifth grader, while the third place winner is Jacelyn Aquino Atalig, a fourth grader from the same school.
From Tinian, the first place winner is Jemimah Edith C. Cruz, a sixth grader from Tinian Elementary School. Second place is Ha’ani K. Aldan, a sixth grader, and third place is Kiana Lizama, a fourth grader. The winners received $50, $30 and $20 each for the first, second and third prizes.
Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters said they received a total of 41 entries from Tinian and 34 entries from Rota this year.
Non-winning entry participants will receive gift kits from PDM Promoters.
For the past five years, PDM Promoters received about a hundred entries in the drawing contest from elementary students on Tinian and Rota depicting how children would want to promote the beauty of the Northern Marianas to the world.
The drawings are posted on the gallery boards set up at the Paseo de Marianas along with the Christmas trees decorated by different schools.
Awards ceremony
PDM Promoters will announce and award the winners of the 5th annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest beginning at 5:30 p.m. tonight.
Last Dec. 1, students from 16 elementary schools decorated their Christmas trees with ornaments made from recycled items. Judges rated the Christmas trees on Dec. 2.
Participating this year were Tanapag Elementary School, Saipan Community School, Koblerville Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, Agape Christian School, San Vicente Elementary School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, Golden Harvest International School, Oleai Elementary School, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, Kagman Elementary School, Joshua Generation International Academy, San Antonio Elementary School, Green Meadow School and Grace Christian Academy.
Prizes at stake are $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 for the first, second and third placers, and consolation prizes for all the other contestants.
This year’s theme was “A Green Christmas for the Children of the Marianas.”
