A ‘phenomenal’ ballet concert

Glushko’s Academy of Performing Arts president Dr. Gene Sylvester Eagle-Oden said a total of over 800 people watched the concert.

“The show is as good as the big city ballets I have seen and we are very proud of the turnout,” he added.

He is also delighted with the corporate support they received to make the show possible and to accommodate the  ballet dancers from Russia, Japan and South Korea.

“Organizing this show was challenging to both of us,” he said, referring to Anna Glushko, the academy’s founder and creative director.

Over 300 people applauded the performances of the 10 international ballet dancers and the 60 students of Glushko’s Academy during their final show on Sunday night.

The visiting ballet stars astounded the audience with their complex artistry.

Glushko’s students, for their part, showcased what they have learned from the academy.

To see the students’ improved performances was “so exciting and fun,” said Helen Ann Bucher, reading resource teacher at Kagman Elementary School.

She and husband Dave Bucher, science teacher at Kagman High School, helped the children practice.

Mrs. Bucher said she was surprised to see the students’ level of performance.

“To let the kids experience performing with professional and international ballet stars is a good opportunity for them,” Mr. Bucher said.

As the show ended, the audience gave a standing ovation to the dancers.
