(ABTC) — The Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco Control Division of the Department of Commerce, in partnership with the Commonwealth Cancer Association, will host a mandatory compliance workshop for all licensed betel nut distributors and retailers on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025. The workshop aims to educate licensees on the new requirements established under Public Law 24-02, which mandates conspicuous warning labels on betel nut products and containers sold in the CNMI, effective Oct. 1, 2025.
The workshop will cover essential topics, including:
• Applicable labeling standards and rotating warning label designs
• Relevant statutory rules and administrative regulations
• Enforcement protocols and applicable penalties
• Submission procedures for mandatory monthly sales reports
“We are committed to ensuring that all betel nut licensees understand and comply with the new regulations,” said David R. Maratita, ABTC director. “This workshop is a crucial step in educating our licensees on the requirements of Public Law 24-02, and we encourage all distributors and retailers to attend and take an active role in promoting public health and safety.”
Attendance is strongly advised for all licensed betel nut distributors and retailers, as compliance with Public Law 24-02 is a condition for the issuance and continued validity of a betel nut license.
The workshop details are as follows:
Date: Sept. 10, 2025
Time: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Venue: Crowne Plaza Hotel, Hibiscus Hall, Garapan
