Additional charges to be filed against Reksid, prosecution says

Judge John Houston of the Southern District of California has vacated the March 14, 2011 jury trial for Franz B. Reksid.

The prosecution informed Houston during a telephonic status conference on Friday of its intent to file additional charges against Reksid, 60.

As a result of these new charges, Reksid requested additional time to conduct discovery.

The court granted the defendant’s request.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric S. O’Malley is prosecuting the case, while Reksid is being represented by attorney Mark B. Hanson.

Currently out on a $25,000 unsecured bond, Reksid has denied the charge of soliciting bribe money in the “Brownsfield” program which receives federal funds.

Indicted by a grand jury on Nov. 23, 2010, Reksid was arrested by federal agents at the end of the same month.

In or about Feb. 2009, Reksid, “acting as agent of a state government, did corruptly solicit a thing of value intending to be influenced and rewarded,” the indictment stated.

It said Reksid solicited $3,000 from the owner of a business seeking to obtain a contract with DPL. The contract was funded by an Environmental Protection Agency Brownsfield grant.
