Administration thanks people for their ‘sacrifices’

Inos told reporters yesterday that the administration would like to thank the people for the many things they have done to deal with the many challenges facing them.

He also thanked nonresident workers who may have to leave the islands for all their contributions to the CNMI economy.

Inos said he has “mixed emotions” about the nonresidents who will have to leave the islands as a result of the federal takeover of  local immigration system.

He noted that the administration tried to stop federalization, but failed.

Inos also thanked department heads, and all the staff of the CNMI government down to the rank and file who continue to provide public services despite the lack of funds.

He said he saw how many government employees are sharing sacrifices in trying to do more with so little.

In their joint message, Fitial and Inos said: “Having faced the challenges and opportunities of the past year, it is time to give thanks for all the blessings we have received.”

They added, “It is also time to reflect on all the good things that have happened in the commonwealth, and to ask for guidance to face the trials that lay ahead. We pray for the safe return of our troops and the protection of our citizens from forces that wish us harm.”

“As we come together with friends and family,” they added, “let us remember to give thanks throughout the year for the good fortunes and freedoms we enjoy. And let us not forget those who are less fortunate here and afar. To all the residents of the CNMI, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.”
