AG’s office has new prosecutor

Attorney General Edward T. Buckingham, Assistant Attorneys General Brian Gallagher, Michael Ernest and Eli Golob as well as AGO staffers witnessed Neal’s swearing in at the Guma Hustisia in Susupe.

Neal will handle domestic violence cases and will be assigned to the local Family Court presided by Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo.

“I love it. The island is beautiful. People are very nice,” Neal told reporters.

She will also focus on policy and procedures, and will be working with the police.

Neal said she got a call two months ago in connection with her application she submitted to the CNMI  eight years ago.

“We’re glad Shelli joined our office,” Buckingham told the Variety after the ceremony.

He said two more lawyers will be joining the AGO “within three weeks.”

This will bring to six the total number of new lawyers hired by the AGO after it lost 10 prosecutors in less than a year.

Ernest, a consumer counsel, and Golob, with the criminal division, recently transferred to the criminal division.

They joined Assistant Attorneys General Rosemond B. Santos, who is the chief prosecutor,  Brian Gallagher and William Downer.
