SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced Alvander DLG Pua to a year in prison for domestic violence.

In his order on Jan. 11, 2024, Judge Govendo said Pua will serve his sentence day for day without the possibility of parole, early release, weekend release, or other similar programs.

Pua, however, was given credit for time already served. He will be released from the custody of the Department of Corrections on Aug. 31, 2024, at 8 a.m., the judge said.

The probation in Criminal Case No. 21-0191-CR will be tolled from Jan. 11, 2024 until Aug. 31, 2024, the judge added.

He also ordered Pua to follow all conditions of probation that were imposed previously.

“The Defendant shall report to the Office of Adult Probation on or before September 3, 2024. Failure to do so shall be grounds for revocation of probation and/or contempt of court charges,” the judge said.

Represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen, Pua on Jan. 11, 2024 pled guilty to assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

The government’s motion to dismiss the assault charge was granted by the court.

The government will also not file probation revocation in Criminal Case No. 21-0191, the judge said.

Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.

Pua was arrested for punching his girlfriend and pulling her hair on Aug. 5, 2023. She was the same victim in his previous domestic violence case.

In 2022, Pua was sentenced by the Superior Court to 10 months in prison for assaulting his girlfriend, the same victim. He was placed on three years’ probation after he was released on Sept. 17, 2022.

In 2018, Pua also assaulted his girlfriend, who was seven months pregnant at the time.
