Park Ranger Nancy Kelchner said she hopes to surpass or have about the same number of children who participated in last year’s event.
“Trunk or Treat” will be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.
“We had over 850 children who joined the activities at the park last year. We hope to have more than that this year,” Kelchner told the Variety.
Now in its third year, Kelchner said the “Trunk or Treat” allows members of the community to park their cars at American Memorial Park, decorate the trunks of their vehicles and distribute candy or little gift items to the children.
Kelchner said the vehicle with the best decorated trunk for the event will win a prize — dinner for four persons at one of the restaurants on island.
“The National Park Service will take charge of the security and safety issues, as well as provide lighting fixtures for the whole park. All the children and the community have to do is enjoy,” she said.
According to Kelchner, the Saipan Pacific Winds community band will provide music to add to the “Halloween” spirit.
“We encourage the community to come and enjoy the event. Children and adults can wear Halloween costumes, too,” she said.
“Rain or shine, we will push through with the ‘Trunk or Treat’ event.”
Movies will also be shown at the Visitor Center.
Kelchner said 40 cars can be accommodated in the parking lot of American Memorial Park.
