He added that the case should send a strong message to public servants that they should take their responsibilities seriously.
Reyes, R-Saipan, said the conviction of Villagomez, her sister and her husband in federal court of corruption charges is one of the worst chapters in the CNMI’s history and a major blow to its reputation.
“I am sorry that this thing happened. It is our hope that something like this never happens but it did,” he said. “My heart goes out to his family. This is a rather difficult time for the former lt. governor and his family. I feel for them. But we need to respect the law.”
