Anti-crime advocate: Community should be vigilant during holiday season

Ramon B. Camacho, who is also the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chairman, said they continue to distribute information campaign materials in schools.

“This community-based organization has been successfully launched on Saipan and incorporated as a non-profit entity this year,” he added.

Its establishment was a response to the criminal activities in the villages even during broad daylight, he said.

“With Christmas vacation approaching, we must be vigilant in our villages during the day and especially during the night hours,” he added.

The task force has gradually implemented and expanded its program in Kagman, Dandan, Tanapag, Susupe and Koblerville as its pilot areas, he said.

According to Camacho, “If it takes the whole village” to educate a child, it also takes the entire village to eradicate crime.

The task force wants to see neighbors caring, protecting and helping one another, he added.

Camacho also encouraged the involvement of school personnel, saying  their support  will help make  villages safer.

He urged school administrators  to assist in sending an anti-crime message in their areas.

This can be done through emails to parents, presentations during PTA and staff meetings as well as student assemblies, Camacho said.

“The action you take in disseminating an anti-crime message and advocating justice for victims of crime is something that we appreciate as part of our partnership effort in making our community wholesome and safe this holiday session and everyday of our lives,” he told schools principals and administrators.
