Drillo told the Variety in a telephone interview that she bought four books or 20 tickets from a friend who went to Guam and left the tickets inside her car here.
“We had to open the car to get my tickets and only turned them over to the Las Vegas receptionists on Saturday night,” she said.
Drillo did not stay for the final raffle drawing past midnight.
She wrote her name on five tickets and the company’s name on the 15 tickets. The winning ticket belonged to Apex Remittance.
The first prize winner of $3,000 was Maggie Camacho, holder of ticket number 1685. Melquiadez Concillado Jr., holder to ticket number 5517 won $2,000 for the second prize. Third prize winner of $1,000 was Joyce Cabrera, holder of ticket number 2199. Fourth and fifth prize winners of $500 each were Paul Pedru, holder of ticket number 5087, and Bin Xu, holder of ticket number 2190.
Other lucky winners also went home with attractive door prizes from the event sponsors.
Rotary Club of Saipan president Kim Forrester said although the proceeds have yet to be computed, this year’s event drew a bigger crowd compared to the last three years.
“All the tables were filled — Black Jack, Roulette, Kina, Craps and Texas Hold ‘Em Poker and everybody did not want to stop playing even after we announced the closing of the tables,” Forrester said.
He said the proceeds of the Las Vegas night, the biggest fundraiser event of the Rotary Club of Saipan each year, will go to finance the club’s projects.
This year’s proceeds will go to the construction of the children’s playground in Kagman. The project will cost about $50,000, Forrester said.
“We hope to start the project as soon as possible and we need money that’s why we moved the Las Vegas Night this month,” Forrester said.
The event was usually held in July or August in the previous years.
Proceeds from the Las Vegas Night last year went to fund the skatepark in central Garapan.
