A five-member entourage of the magazine, including martial artist and martial arts actor Kane Kosugi, was on Saipan on June 15-19 to capture the destination appeal of the island, both below and above water.
“Saipan, Tinian and Rota continue to receive recognition for their underwater beauty. We’re pleased that actor Kane Kosugi, through Monthly Diving, has chosen to help share that wonder with our Japanese market,” said Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Perry Tenorio.
Since 1983, Kosugi has appeared in various roles as a voice actor for video games, stunt actor in movies, and character actor in both English-language and Japanese-language films.
In addition to two mornings of diving, the crew taped horseback riding at Marianas Resort & Spa, the natural fauna of Saipan Botanical Garden, and the Garapan Street Market. They visited Big Dipper ice cream parlor, Coffee Care restaurant, and Pacific Islands Club Saipan Seaside Bar & Grill.
The magazine crew also took in local scenic sites, including the seabird nesting grounds of Bird Island, the geological wonders and ancient Chamorro pictographs of Kalabera Cave, and a panoramic view of Saipan from atop the island peak of Mt. Tapachao.
Targeting male and female divers, Monthly Diving has a circulation of 120,000 and has been published since 2001. The anticipated ad value is over $60,000.

Jarvis named director of National Park Service
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Interior Department) — Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar praised President Obama’s announcement that he intends to nominate Jonathan Jarvis to be director of the National Park Service. Jarvis, a 30-year veteran of the Park Service, currently is the regional director of the agency’s Pacific West Region.
“President Obama has made an outstanding choice for director of the National Park Service,” Salazar said. “There is no substitute for experience, and Jon Jarvis has three decades of hands-on experience in our parks that will be invaluable as we seek to reinvigorate and improve our National Park System in time for its 100th anniversary in 2016.”
