Art exhibit for women opens

ARTWORK of women can now be seen by the public at the CNMI Gallery for Arts and Culture on Capital Hill.

The art exhibit, according to Mona Rebuenog of the Council for Arts and Culture in a telephone interview, will be open throughout the month.

“The annual CNMI women’s exhibit opened yesterday and it will run until July 3,” Rebuenog said.

She said as of yesterday morning, 15 local female artists had brought their work for display at the gallery.

“We are expecting more artists to come and display their work. We have more exhibitors last year but it’s still the first day of the exhibit. Some of the artists came at a later time,” Rebuenog said.

She said that the artists have the option to display their work either for sale or just for exhibit.

“We conduct this exhibit every year and there are artists who sell their work. Others just put their work up for display,” she said.

Rebuenog is inviting the community to visit the CNMI Gallery for Arts and Culture to view the women’s artwork.

She said the invitation is still open for other women artists to display their work.

“Women of all ages, nationality and culture can join the exhibit and there are no registration fees. All they need to do is contact us to register and they can display their work,” she added.

Rebuenog said the annual CNMI women’s exhibit is held to provide experience, enhancement, promotion and recognition to all women who posses artistic talents, interests and knowledge.

Rebuenog said another art exhibit is slated toward the end of the year but it is open for all artists, not just women.

Coordinators for the women’s exhibit are Lucio Ayuyu and Parker Yobei.

Yobei said more artists came in yesterday afternoon to add their work to the displays.
