Atalig opposes Tenorio nomination

THE chairman of Rota’s legislative delegation is opposed to the nomination of Dr. Joaquin A. Tenorio as secretary of labor and immigration.

Gov. Juan N. Babauta, however, believes that Sen. Ricardo S. Atalig’s concerns can be addressed in a meeting he has scheduled with the senators.

Atalig, R-Rota and vice chairman of the Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation, said he will ask the committee members to reject Tenorio’s nomination.

“I am not supporting him for several reasons,” Atalig told the Variety.

“I am not going to block the nomination, but when it is placed on the floor, I am going to ask the committee to reject it,” Atalig added.

Babauta said commonwealth needs Tenorio’s services, adding that he will push for the nominee’s confirmation.

“We need good and honest persons to help run the government,” he added.

Atalig believes in Tenorio’s integrity and honesty, “but he is better suited in other departments.”

Atalig, moreover, said when Tenorio was lands and natural resources secretary, several DLNR projects remained unfinished on Rota.
