Atalig says electing delegate cheaper than suing feds

One of the nine congressional delegate candidates, Atalig said if he wins, he will propose amendments to the federalization law “to make it more flexible and more meaningful” for the CNMI.

He said this is “way cheaper” than Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s plan to pay $400,000 for the planned lawsuit.

According to Atalig, the commonwealth might end up paying more than $400,00 without accomplishing anything.

“Rather than paying that amount why not wait until I win in November,” he said. “That’s why we need a person who can represent the CNMI in the U.S. Congress.”

Atalig at the same time blamed Washington Rep. Pedro A. Tenorio for “allowing” the inclusion of labor control in the federalization law.

“This is a violation of the Covenant — an intentional human error,” Atalig claimed.
