He said many people who are longing to see “dramatic changes” in the CNMI have been urging him to run.
In an interview yesterday, Ayuyu, who owns the McDonald’s restaurants on Saipan, said several groups of people from different political parties have been pledging their support once he officially announces his candidacy.
“I do have an interest to run at some point in the future,” he said.
He recalled that in 2001 and 2005, some leaders of the Democratic Party urged him to run or to join its gubernatorial slate.
The Commerce secretary of then-Democratic Gov. Carlos S. Camacho, Ayuyu said ordinary people in the community have been asking him to run for governor.
The local people, he added, are reeling from the impact of the CNMI’s worsening socio-economic problems.
“Their biggest complaint is that they are tired of electing the same candidates they see running in every election,” he said.
Ayuyu said the people want somebody who is not connected to politics and whose background is not tainted.
