Alam, who received a certificate of appreciation for community service, said he will encourage his compatriots to be involved in activities that benefit the entire island and all its people.
Alam is the current PTA president of Hopwood Junior High School.
During their nation’s 39th “Victory Day” celebration at the multi-purpose center in Susupe on Thursday, the Bangladeshi community recognized its members’ contributions to the CNMI.
Another awardee for community service, Habib-ullah Ferdous, said even without recognition they will continue to serve the island.
“I hope the other communities will also continue toward the development of the island,” he said.
Rabby Syed, the United Workers Movement president, said the celebration was very successful.
“We are happy with the continued fellowship with the local community,” he said.
Bangladeshi Cultural Group president Rakibul “Mintu” Islam said their guests included Federal Labor Ombudsman Pamela Brown, Dr. John Griffin of Northern Marianas College, Hopwood Junior High School principal Jonas Barcinas, Dr. Jack Hardy, attorney Joe Hill, Korean Weekly Newspaper publisher Simon Sin, Pilipino Contract Workers Association president Ronnie Doca and Commonwealth Health Center’s Dr. Chad Lowe.
The Bangladeshi community also thanked the following sponsors: the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Bali Fashion, Taste of India, Phone Store, Hopwood Junior High School and the Marianas High School JROTC program.
