“We are expected to perform our job to the best of our ability and no nonsense should be brought to the campus as we are all professionals and adults,” said Jonas Barcinas, HJSH principal.
He said Hopwood, as one of the islands’ oldest schools, “sure needs some makeover.”
His challenge is to get enough financial support, but he said he is certain to get assistance from the Public School System’s leadership and the Board of Education.
Barcinas said Hopwood, like other public schools and their PTA’s, is involved in planning the capital improvement projects of PSS.
In the planning process, he said it is also important to get the participation of lawmakers, the business community and the different government agencies.
“Our accreditation is coming up and with the federal stimulus funds coming soon, I am sure that we can achieve all the projects that will help make learning fun and exciting for the students,” Barcinas said.
The goal should be to make school and its activities enjoyable for students, he added.
Barcinas said his new position had been his dream while still the principal of Dandan Elementary School.
“I felt that I had done so much already and I wanted to follow my students to the secondary level,” he added.
“Now my dream has come true.. I never would have thought that this transition was going to take place but it has happened and I am very happy.”
