These are the service stations on Airport Road in Dandan, Middle Road in Gualo Rai and Beach Road in Koblerville that have been closed after they were damaged by Super Typhoon Yutu in October 2018.
ST/AR program manager Robert B. Deleon Guerrero said IP&E, which manages the service stations, has been working closely with his team to ensure that the underground storage tanks closure process is done correctly and is compliant with the regulations.
ST/AR ensures that the removal of the storage tanks and the sampling of surrounding soil is done properly and complies with the regulations.
Variety was unable to get a comment from IP&E.
ST/AR environmental specialist Joshua C. Santos and environmental technician Jason Q. Reyes said they started the site assessment two weeks ago.
Deleon Guerrero said IP&E Shell wants the Airport Road service station closed first, to be followed by the service stations in Gualo Rai and Koblerville at a later date.
He noted that the underground storage tanks at the service stations were emptied immediately after Super Typhoon Yutu and have remained empty since then.
ST/AR is responsible for reviewing and issuing a permit to install and operate both aboveground and underground storage tanks. It is also tasked with performing inspections, compliance monitoring and enforcement of regulations.
