Benavente will lobby for his bills

In an interview yesterday, Benavente, R-Saipan, said he has three bills pending in the House.

They  belong to the House and his colleagues may continue to deliberate and act on them, he added.

Benavente said he will lobby for their passage as a concerned citizen.

Two of his bills, he added, are very important. One  will penalize any establishment that sells items bought from the troop store.

He said a lot of stores or individuals continue to buy merchandise from the troop store that are then  sold to consumers. This in unfair to companies and wholesalers who pay taxes, he added.

“I know there is federal law against individuals getting items from the commissary and selling them.  But our problem is that we don’t have a law that restricts these acts,” he said.

He said  if the House will not act on it he will ask the Senate to consider introducing the same bill.

Another bill  he has introduced identifies essential services in case a government shutdown happens again.

“I will continue showing my support in the gallery during the public comments portion of the sessions,” Benevante said.
