THE Senate will pass a bill that would regulate the costs for services, connection payments and repayment of security deposits charged by the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., Senate President Paul A. Manglona said yesterday.
Manglona, R-Rota, expects the bill to be passed next week.
CUC Executive Director Bernard P. Villagomez was out of his office for a meeting yesterday afternoon, the Variety was told.
“CUC’s policy on power connection is unfair,” Manglona said. “CUC appears to be inconsistent based on the several complaints we’ve received.”
An applicant has to pay between $4,000 to $10,000 for the transformer when he applies for a power connection, even if the power line is just above his place, Manglona said.
A power consumer also has to pay for the total amount involved in “energizing the transformer,” if his property is at the farthest part of a residential area, he added.
Manglona said a resident who requests CUC to temporarily disconnect his power connection to give way for a renovation of his property has to pay disconnection fee and several other “new deposits” even if he has been a CUC customer for more than 20 years.
