Appointed in 2016, Miura will complete his term as a non-voting member of the BOE on Nov. 30.
BOE Chairwoman Janice A. Tenorio thanked Miura for his four years of being “a very vocal member of the board on matters concerning teachers, campus staff and students.”
Commissioner Ada said PSS teachers can now nominate a new teacher representative.
Ada will submit the name of the nominee to the governor who will then make the appointment.
On behalf of PSS’ key management, faculty, campus staff and students, Ada thanked Miura for his service on the board. “We appreciate you for…representing the teachers. We appreciate the gift that you shared with us, and that gift is your valuable time so we can help make a difference. We wish you well. You are a valuable asset to CNMI education,” Ada said.

Board member Herman Atalig commended Miura, the 2014 Teacher of the Year, for advancing the welfare of teachers and communicating their problems and recommendations to the board.
Board member Andrew Orsini said he appreciates the privilege of working with Miura. “I know your passion, and I commend you for the efforts you have [made] as teacher representative to the board.”
Miura, who attended the meeting via videoconference, said he was overwhelmed by the expressions of appreciation and support, “not just today but throughout my four years on the board.”
He reiterated that his No. 1 priority is to elevate the teaching profession.
“When I am fighting for teachers, I am really fighting for students because they are why we teachers are here,” he said.
Miura teaches English/Language Arts at Saipan Southern High School.
