BOE, PSS honor public school vice principals

THE Board of Education, led by Acting Chairman Anthony Dela Cruz Barcinas, Secretary/Treasurer Antonio L. Borja, member Andrew L. Orsini, member Maisie B. Tenorio, and Acting Commissioner of Education Jacqueline P. Che of the Public School System honored public school vice principals on Friday with surprise visits to schools on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

Friday marked the culmination of the week-long PSS Vice Principal Appreciation Week, held from April 7 to 11, with each school holding its own celebration to honor its vice principal.

School vice principals were presented with miniature cakes inscribed with the words “Thank You, mVP,” along with bouquets of flowers and mwars.

On Saipan, Acting BOE Chairman Barcinas, board member Orsini, and Acting Commissioner of Education Che paid surprise visits to several vice principals on Saipan in recognition of their service.

Joining the education officials were Associate Commissioner for Administration Eric Magofna, PSS Human Resources Officer Lucretia B. Deleon Guerero, Finance Director Arlene Lizama, Special Education State Director Donna M. Flores, Career and Technical Education Director Dr. Jessica Taylor as well as BOE staffers Jocelyn Saures, Mary-Jo Camacho, and Elohn Deleon Guerrero.

They visited Tanapag Middle School Vice Principal Felisa Telius, Garapan Elementary School Vice Principal Jaclyn Quitugua, Marianas High School Vice Principal Romolo Orsini, William S. Reyes Vice Principal Dr. Jocelyn Manibusan, Koblerville Elementary School Vice Principal Naomi Nishimura, San Vicente Elementary School Vice Principal Annamarie Guerrero, Kagman Elementary School Vice Principal Lareyna Camacho, Kagman High School Vice Principals Shirley Norita and Francisca Bondoc, and Chacha Ocean View Middle School Vice Principal Dr. Benjamin Seman.

On Tinian, Board of Education Secretary/Treasurer Antonio Toram Borja and BOE member Maisie B. Tenorio visited Tinian Middle and High School Vice Principal Edward Hofschneider.

Joining Borja and Tenorio were PSS Instructional Technology and Distance Education Director Dr. Lorraine Catienza, staff member Dr. Riya Nathrani, PSS Federal Programs Office staff member Richelle Castro, and Office of Administrative Services staff member Frankie Camacho

From Saipan, Acting BOE Chairman Barcinas flew to Rota to surprise the vice principals of its public schools — Juana Atalig of Sinapalo Elementary School and Desiriee Pendergrass of Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr./Sr. High School — with a visit.

At Sinapalo Elementary School, Acting BOE Chairman Barcinas was joined by Principal Daisy Quitugua and Federal Programs Office or FPO staff members Maria Quitugua and Nadia Pua to present the school district’s token of appreciation to Vice Principal Juana Atalig.

Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr. Sr. High School Principal Annette Calvo joined the acting BOE chairman and the PSS-FPO team in surprising Vice Principal Pendergrass in her office.

The other vice principals honored by the BOE and PSS were Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School’s Melisa M. Mendez, Oleai Elementary School’s Alisa Pangelinan, Tinian Elementary School’s April Manglona, Dandan Middle School’s Reo Arriola, Francisco M. Sablan Middle School’s Catherine Acera-Cabrera, Hopwood Middle School’s Karen Ann Manuel, MHS’ Preston Basa, and Saipan Southern High School’s Arisa Sakai.

According to BOE and PSS officials, the expanding roles of elementary, middle, and high school principals are helping ensure that all administrators, parents, teachers, and staff work together to support student learning.
