The members recorded 160 trips paid by federal grants and 51 funded by local appropriation.
BOE Chairwoman Lucy Blanco-Maratita, who is from Tinian, recorded 86 trips funded by federal monies amounting to $23,292 and spent $5,162 in CNMI funds on her 28 local and off-island trips for a total amount of $28,454.
In FY 2007, she recorded $15,428 in total travel expenditures and $13,026 in FY 2008.
Former Rota board member Marja Lee Taitano, whose term ended in Jan. 2008, had the second highest travel expenditure — $16,876 for her 15 travels in FY 2007 and four trips in FY 2008.
Total advances issued to Taitano amounted to $13,564 in FY 2007 and $3,312 in FY 2008.
Rota board member Tanya King, who assumed office in January, spent $8,059 for 26 travels in 2008. Of the amount, $7,746 was paid by federal funds while $312 was sourced from the local budget.
In FY 2007, former BOE Chairman Roman C. Benavente, whose term ended in January, spent $7,468 on travels — $7,136 in federal funds and $331 in local appropriation.
Another former member from Saipan, Dino M. Jones, spent $4,197 in federal funds on three trips he made in FY 2007.
His term expired in Jan. 2008.
BOE Vice Chairman Herman T. Guerrero, who is in his third term, spent $1,498 in federal funds on his travels — $162 in FY 2007 and $1,336 in FY 2008.
Former student representative Louvele Borja of Tinian recorded eight trips during her term — six in FY 2007 and two in FY 2008. Her total travel expenses amounted to $1,445 of which $1,198 was paid by federal funds.
