John Oliver “Bolis” Gonzales was the master of ceremonies during the Memorial Day commemoration at the Veterans Cemetery in Marpi on May 26, 2025.

JOHN Oliver “Bolis” DLR Gonzales has been appointed by Gov. Arnold I. Palacios as the administration’s communications and policy advisor.

According to the Office of the Governor, Gonzales was appointed around mid-May. The appointment papers, Variety was told, were still being “routed” as of Friday, May 30, 2025.

Also on Friday, the governor appointed Gonzales acting special assistant for administration, a position held by former Speaker Oscar M. Babauta, who passed away in March.

In his memorandum, Palacios informed department and agency heads that, until further notice, Gonzales will serve as acting SAA.

“We kindly request that you extend your full cooperation and support to Mr. Gonzales as he assumes these additional responsibilities,” the governor said.

Gonzales declined to comment.

He served as board chairman of the Northern Marianas Trade Institute for seven years when it was still a non-government entity. It is now known as NMTech or the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, an autonomous government agency.

Gonzales also served as executive director of Joten-Kiyu Public Library and was president of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. Volunteers Association as well as the CNMI FESTPAC Committee.

He ran unsuccessfully for CNMI delegate in the 2024 midterm election.
